Windward residents organize as the Windward Dog Park Hui.
Registers as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the IRS & DCCA. WDPH begins contacting state and city officials, canvassing potential sites, collecting thousands of signatures (5,000) in support, organizing fundraisers and participating in dog-related events.
State House introduces HCR117 requesting the Department of Land and Natural Resources to collaborate with the city and stakeholders to select a parcel. Honolulu City Council adopts Resolution 17-98 requesting the Department of Parks and Recreation to find a suitable parcel. Honolulu City Council appropriates $100,000 for a dog park.
WDPH participates in over two dozen events, including one Kailua 4th of July Parade, and three Kaneohe Christmas parades, garnering 1st Place for Originality three years in a row.
Hui Ilio/Hawaii Kai Dog Park donates $3,500 for future dog park.
Council member Esther Kia‘aina and DPR Director Laura Thielen renew efforts to open an off-leash dog park next to Bayview Golf Course.
City Council appropriates $250,000 for dog park.
WDPH regroups after a 2-year hiatus due to COVID-19.
Efforts continue with all project partners working to get the park open for Windward Oʻahu.
WDPH has started a fundraising campaign to support a safety mitigation project in partnership with Bayview Golf Course. Hole #7 is being relocated to accommodate shared safety concerns and public funding is not allowable for this purpose. Our fundraiser will cover the costs of hole relocation, a stand-alone issue, so that patrons of the dog park and golf course alike will have an enjoyable and safe experience. Please consider joining our efforts to get the dog park ready for public use!
WDPH received three grants between the Fall and Winter months of 2023 to go toward the Safety Project efforts. Three partnered fundraisers were also held with Panda Express and Kailuaʻs California Pizza Kitchen earning a bit more toward the fundraising goal. While we were not approved for all of the applications we submitted, we are confident that 2024 will brings us more opportunities to find new funding partners.
